BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A Louisiana man out on bond and with active warrants has been accused of being involved in separate shootings that wounded five people, including two children.

Mieyoshi Tyree Edwards, 21, was arrested Thursday after detectives traced rental cars used in both shootings to Edwards’ girlfriend, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.

Deputies said a shooting on July 4 left two adults and two small children with gunshot wounds.

The group was driving into an apartment complex in Baton Rouge when two suspects in another car shot at them, according to booking documents obtained by The Advocate.

A motive for the shooting wasn’t immediately released.

Deputies said video surveillance near the scene of the shooting identified the rental car that was traced back to Edwards’ girlfriend in Tickfaw, a city about 52 miles (84 kilometers) east of Baton Rouge.

Further investigation connected Edwards to a shooting on April 6. In that incident, authorities said Edwards fired at three people, wounding one person.

Investigators said Edwards had an ongoing dispute with the victims.

Deputies said Edwards had active arrest warrants through the Baton Rouge Police Department on counts of aggravated assault and illegal possession of a stolen firearm.

He was out on bond after being arrested in December 2019 on an attempted first-degree murder charge, The Advocate reported.

He has now been charged with several counts of attempted murder for the April and July shootings.

It’s unclear whether he had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
