HARVEY, La. (WDSU) —

Harvey resident James Haley is $200,000 wealthier after playing a $200,000 cash scratch-off from the Louisiana Lottery that won him a top prize.

“I bought $40 worth of tickets and only won $15. So, I picked three more and bam, won $200,000 worth of RedBull,” Haley said.

While claiming his prize on Aug. 16 at the New Orleans’ Regional Lottery Office, the 34-year-old told staff he believed the good fortune came back to him after helping others in need that week. Haley, who is a father of four, plans to use a portion of his winnings to pay off his home.

The winner purchased the lucky $10 ticket at Super Saver Store in Marrero. He will receive $142,000 after state and federal tax withholdings.

Two more top prize-winning tickets remain in the $200,000 Cash game, which went on sale June 28.

Lottery ticket purchasers must be at least 21 years of age. For security purposes, players are strongly encouraged to sign the back of their ticket immediately after purchasing.

The Lottery also encourages anyone who has a gambling problem or friends and family of anyone with a gambling problem to call toll-free 1-877-770-7867.
