BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Baton Rouge receives more robocalls per person than any other city in the United States, averaging 39 robocalls per resident in February. That’s more than two and a half times the national average, according to data from YouMail.
The Better Business Bureau has offered tips to help locals spot and stop these pesky calls.
BBB relayed three key steps that the Federal Trade Commission identified as ways to reduce robocalls:
HANG UP
Calls that are recorded and include sales pitches are illegal, and pressing a button to remove your number from a call list could actually result in more robocalls. It’s best to hang up and not press any buttons.
BLOCK
People can use call-blocking technologies, which may vary depending on the type of phone they have, their service provider and if the phone is a traditional landline or if the phone uses internet.

REPORT
The FTC urges people to report these illegal calls, and they can do so here. It’s best that people report as much information about the calls as possible to help law enforcement efforts to stop the calls.
