BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — As temperatures begin to drop ahead of weekend Christmas weather, FEMA is telling those living in mobile homes and trailers how to stay warm.

Those living in travel trailers are suggested to refill propane tanks before the cold weather moves in since propane powers the heater, FEMA said.

Other reminders from FEMA:

  • Do not use kitchen stoves, ovens, or space heaters to heat your unit. Rely on the unit’s heater.
  • When temperatures approach freezing, run a thin stream of cold water from the kitchen or bathroom faucet.
  • To help stay warm, wear layers of clothing and a hat.
  • Questions or concerns can be directed to your recertification advisor or maintenance.
  • Keep cell phones on and fully charged with volume up and severe weather alerts enabled.
  • Monitor local weather reports and stay alert to weather warnings.
  • Follow directions given by local and state officials.
