WASHINGTON (BRPROUD) — A bill introduced by Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy aims to provide tax relief to Hurricane Ida victims.

According to Sen. Cassidy, in the bill, Hurricane Ida victims would be able to deduct disaster-related personal casualty losses from gross income even after taking the standard deduction while waiving the 10% floor for deductions.

“When recovering from a disaster, every bit helps, and this is a big help,” said Sen. Cassidy. “This bill gives needed tax relief to those Hurricane Ida victims who are using their own money to recover their lives.”

Hurricane Ida made landfall as a Category 4 storm on Louisiana’s southeastern coast on August 26, 2021.
