BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Louisiana’s district courts have filed the most insurance lawsuits compared to the rest of the nation.

According to an analysis, from 2020 to 2022, the Eastern District of Louisiana, which includes East Baton Rouge Parish, reported almost 3,800 cases. The Eastern District is only the second highest district, coming after the Western District with almost 8,200 cases reported. In total, the Eastern and Western Districts have filed nearly 12,000 cases.

“Our data and analytics supported the data-driven insights that recent natural and economic phenomena, such as hurricanes, wildfires, a pandemic, and rising building costs, likely bolstered recent insurance case filings,” said Ronald Porter, Lex Machina’s insurance legal data expert and editor of the report.

The McClenny, Moseley & Associates, or MMA Law Firm, is reported as the most used law firm in Louisiana as the representing plaintiff while Porteous, Hainkel, and Johnson is the most used firm as the representing defendant. State Farm is the most active as a plaintiff and defendant, according to the report.
