BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Louisiana is in the Top 10 worst states to retire in 2023. The state’s worst-performing category in an analysis of several factors was crime, followed by health care quality and cost.

According to a report from Bankrate, to determine the best and worst places to live they analyzed all 50 states and ranked them across five weighted categories: affordability (40%), well-being (25%), health care quality and cost (20%), weather (10%) and crime (5%).

Choosing the best place to retire also can come down to financial or emotional factors.

Louisiana ranked No. 41 overall. In the five weighted categories, Louisiana ranked No. 16 in affordability, No. 44 in health care quality and cost, No. 41 in well-being, No. 5 in weather and No. 48 in crime.
