BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Mississippi River saltwater intrusion has caused a headache for areas affected by the situation since it started back on Sept. 20. There continues to be a search for solutions on the saltwater intrusion that is ongoing.
There is relief that is on the way for Louisiana taxpayers that have been affected by the saltwater intrusion as the Louisiana Department of Revenue awards automatic filing extensions. The extension applies to the parishes of Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines and St. Bernard.
According to a release from LDR, the filing extensions are up to six months. The extensions are applied for the following tax types: corporate income, corporation franchise, fiduciary income, individual income and partnership income.
No action is required for taxpayers who meet the qualifications for the automatic extension. LDR will apply the extension to the accounts automatically, according to the release.
