BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Louisiana ranks second behind Mississippi in the highest number of sexually transmitted diseases in the U.S.
According to CDC data, the state of Louisiana is in second place with 1,846 STD cases per 100,000 people. The total number of cases is 71,286. In comparison, Mississippi ranked first with 1,958 STD cases per 100,000 and 48,548 total cases.
Specifically, Louisiana is one of the states with the most gonorrhea and chlamydia cases. The CDC reports 32,997 chlamydia cases and 15,483 gonorrhea cases in the state.
