COVINGTON, La. (WDSU) — A Covington woman was killed in a crash on Interstate 12 Sunday.

Around 1 a.m. Louisiana State Police responded to the crash on I-12 eastbound west of LA 21.

The crash claimed the life of 36-year-old Tiffany A. Peterson of Covington.

Troopers said Peterson was headed eastbound on I-12 in a 2015 Nissan Altima. Her car rear-end impacted a 2020 Freightliner 18-wheeler causing the Nissan to underride the 18-wheeler trailer, according to state police.

Peterson was properly restrained but died from injuries sustained in the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the St Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office.

State police said impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash. As a part of the investigation, a blood sample was collected for scientific analysis from Peterson, according to state police.
