Louisiana woman no longer allowed to practice tax preparation

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Brischea Bowman Johnson is only allowed to file her own taxes after a ruling by Judge Shayna Beevers Morvant.

This all started with an investigation into whether Johnson filed false public records.

That investigation led to the arrest of Brischea Bowman Johnson.

According to the Louisiana Department of Revenue, “Johnson was arrested in 2020 after a joint investigation between the Louisiana Department of Revenue Criminal Investigations Division and the state Attorney General’s office determined that she had submitted false tax returns for several of her clients, including fraudulent claims for deductions for charitable contributions and business expenses.”

Johnson submitted a guilty plea which led to the Louisiana Department of Revenue seeking to ban Brischea Johnson from preparing taxes in the state.

What the ruling means is that Johnson will no longer have a job as a tax preparer.

It means no more “preparing, filing, or assisting with the preparation or filing of any Louisiana state tax returns but her own,” according to the Louisiana Department of Revenue.

Brischea Bowman Johnson becomes the seventh person who has been barred from practicing tax preparation in Louisiana.
