BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The deadline for Louisiana families to apply for the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer program has been extended to Monday, June 15, the Louisiana Department of Education and the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services announced.
The agencies also announced a delay in mailed benefits for parents who applied the first week the program accepted applications, between May 18 and May 25.
Parents who applied for the free meals in May will receive $91.20. That amount covers the cost of 16 meals individual students would have missed in May after schools switched to remote forms of learning due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“While the vast majority of P-EBT cards for this first group were expected to arrive in Louisiana mailboxes by the first part of this week, DCFS has been notified by its contractor that recipients should expect a delay of several days,” a Louisiana Department of Education press release reveals. “Updates will be provided as they become available.”
