ZACHARY, La. (BRPROUD) – Two young people from New Roads died in a head-on collision earlier this week.
Stanlasija Brue, 17 and Thaddeus Johnson, 22, were killed in “a two vehicle fatal crash on US Hwy 61 south of LA Hwy 964 in East Baton Rouge Parish,” according to the Louisiana State Police.
The deadly accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 26.
LSP says, it all started when “an on-duty New Roads Police Officer observed a stolen 2010 Chevrolet Camaro traveling within the city limits of New Roads.”
The Camaro was driven by Brue who led police on a chase.
The Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office joined in on the pursuit.
Brue made his way to US Hwy 61 south in East Baton Rouge Parish.
As Brue was driving south on US Hwy 61, Thaddeus Johnson was driving north in a 2000 Ford Mustang.
According to the Louisiana State Police, “for reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet ran off the roadway to the left and crossed the median.”
The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro then hit Johnson’s vehicle head-on.
Neither Brue or Johnson were wearing seat belts when the crash occurred and both died at the crash scene.
LSP says, “three passengers in the Chevrolet were also unrestrained at the time of the crash and sustained serious injuries.”
The investigation into this deadly crash remains open and toxicology results from both drivers are forthcoming.
