PONCHATOULA, La. (BRPROUD) – Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office confirms two boys were found in Florida, roughly a day after being abducted by the biological mother from their father’s driveway on Mar. 2.

The victim told deputies that the father pulled into his driveway shortly after 3 p.m., with his two children, 4-year-old Jax Matthews and 8-year-old Kaesyn Heck, secured in their seats, got out the car to retrieve a tool, by the time he returned, his vehicle and children were missing.

Chief Jimmy Travis says the mother, 38-year-old Shawntel Heck, the suspect in the children’s disappearance, was located by investigators in Santa Rosa County, Fla. and ran toward a wooded area. She remains on the run.

Heck faces a charge of simple kidnapping and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The children are in the protective care of the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office. It’s unclear when they will return to Louisiana.
