National Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity reacts to LSU Fraternity Hazing Investigation

News

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD)— According to LSU’s website, Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity is under investigation for an alleged hazing incident that happened Monday. The student is hospitalized but is said to be okay. This isn’t the first time that the fraternity has been under fire. Back in September, the organization was under investigation along with another fraternity after someone reported the allegations through an online reporting system. After speaking with other LSU Students, we were told that it is saddening when groups live up to the stereotypes that are given to fraternities and sororities.

“It’s very unfortunate that when people think of greek life now they now think of hazing due to the fact that there have been so many incidences where people have been getting injured,” says LSU student Duronne Walker.

District Attorney Hillar Moore III said his office is interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence to determine whether the circumstances meet the criminal definition of hazing that was enacted in state law following the 2017 death of Max Gruver.

We’ve reached out to the National Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity for comment. Executive Director Ronald K. Ransom II, Executive Director of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity says “We are working with LSU and local authorities as they investigate an off-campus incident which involved several members of the fraternity. Members and the fraternity are fully cooperating with the investigation. Following our procedures, we have proactively suspended the chapter until the investigation is complete,” We are working with LSU and local authorities as they investigate an off-campus incident which involved several members of the fraternity.
