LSU giving nearly $5.2 million back to students in COVID-19 refunds

BATON ROUGE, La. (WDSU) — LSU is giving students refunds after classes ended early for the semester because of coronavirus concerns.

The school said Wednesday it is expected to refund nearly $5.2 million back to students, which includes housing and meal plan refunds.

For the housing and meal plan credits, they were first applied to any outstanding amounts owed to LSU, according to Media Relations Director Ernie Ballard.

If a refund was due and the student had banking information on file, the school will direct deposited the refund, according to LSU officials.

Students without direct deposit will receive a check mailed to their local mailing address.

According to Ballard, the refunds are separate from the $9.44M awarded to students through the federal coronavirus relief bill.
