BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – An LSU student was arrested over the weekend after confessing to drinking “two beers, three mixed drinks and three shots,” before slamming into the back of another vehicle, according to the affidavit.

The student has been identified as Zachary Heitzmann, 22, of Baton Rouge.

An officer with the Louisiana State Police Department was called to the scene of this two-vehicle crash on Saturday, October 22.

The crash took place around 2 a.m. on Nicholson Dr. and South Stadium Dr.

The affidavit states that Heitzmann “rear-ended the other vehicle as he was following too closely.”

The officer spoke with the LSU student at the crash scene.

During questioning, Heitzmann said he started consuming alcohol about three hours prior to his arrest.

Heitzmann was given some Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and they did not go well.

The LSU student was subsequently arrested and charged with the crimes listed below:

  • Following too close

After saying no to a breath test, Heitzmann was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
