BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Dominic Moore, 18, of Metairie, is charged with Terrorizing.
Moore is a student at LSU and his arrest stems from an incident that took place on Monday, January 24.
A little before 7 p.m., the LSU Police Department tweeted out this message, “Reported suspicious incident at 459 Commons. LSUPD on scene and investigating. Use caution if in the area and report any suspicious activity to LSUPD.”
That message was sent out after LSUPD received a report about a potential threat.
The report referred to a post made on Yik-Yak.
According to the affidavit, the post said, “there’s about to be an active shooter in the 4:59 at 6:30, the 459 is a dining hall location on LSU’s campus.”
Investigators were able to uncover a phone number that they believe was linked to the above post.
The owner of the number was interviewed and cleared after providing an alibi.
The affidavit states that the owner of the number “let a friend, Dominic Moore, use his phone number to activate Moore’s Yik Yak account as Moore had previously been banned from Yik Yak using his own phone number.”
An hour and twenty minutes after the initial tweet, LSU PD alerted the public that “no suspicious activity was found.”
According to the affidavit, “Investigators were able to further place Moore at the 459 dining hall during the timeframe using recorded video surveillance and LSU ID card swipes to enter the dining hall.”
LSU says, “Due to student privacy rights, I cannot comment on potential disciplinary action for an individual at this time, but Code of Conduct violations are handled by Student Advocacy & Accountability. The disciplinary process is outlined in the student code.”
