Geaux Tigers has been the motto all day on LSU’s campus. Monday, students showed their excitement for the future of Tiger sports. Monday afternoon, LSU welcomed alumnus and Baton Rouge native Scott Woodward as the new athletic director.
“Thomas Wolfe once said you can’t go home again but clearly, they’ve never been to Baton Rouge.” said Woodward.
The appointment comes less than a week after the former athletic director Joe Alleva stepped down from the job. Alleva served as LSU athletic director for 11 years. Students say hiring Woodward to replace Alleva is a step in the right direction.
“I think anything is a step up for the people of Baton Rouge from Joe Alleva so, that’s pretty cool.” said Carter Albert, Senior student at LSU
Last month, the Tigers men’s basketball team made it to the sweet 16 and just last week, the women’s gymnastics team placed second nationally.
“Like Will Wade was new and he brought us to the NCAA tournament we haven’t been in like 10 years I believe we just got to clear the water with all that’s happened and get back on track.” said Micheal Brown, Sophomore student at LSU.
Students say, it’s those type of performances like the Sweet 16, they want to see more of.
“I think if you keep up the progress that we had in all sports this year, you’re doing a great job. Football made a leap, basketball made a leap baseball started out as number 1 but fell back a little bit but constantly making those steps forward.” said Albert.
