Majority of COVID patients in local hospitals are unvaccinated, youngest patient is 3 weeks old

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Our Lady of the Lake released the latest COVID hospitalization numbers at the three major hospitals in Baton Rouge.

The numbers below are from 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 7 and they encompass Our Lady of the Lake, Baton Rouge General Medical Center and Ochsner Baton Rouge.

Over 86% of the COVID patients in these hospitals are unvaccinated.

Baton Rouge General is providing their most recent COVID statistics below:

We have surpassed the most COVID-positive patients we have ever had in our hospital.

On Saturday, we have 175 COVID patients between our Bluebonnet and Mid City campuses.

The previous high of 169 was on April 26, 2020

47% of these patients are in the ICU.

At 82 ICU patients, this is also the most we have ever had in the hospital. (At our peak on April 26, 2020, 16% of our COVID patients were in the ICU)

15 of the patients are vaccinated.

The average age of vaccinated patients is 73, while the average age of unvaccinated patients is 54

As of Friday, the youngest COVID patient in Our Lady of the Lake was 3 weeks old.
