Man sentenced to ‘years of hard labor’ in EBR Parish after conviction on child sex crimes

East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Almost five years after being arrested, James Fontenot has been sentenced “to 25 years of hard labor without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.”

Earlier this summer, Fontenot was convicted by a jury in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Fontenot was found guilty of child sex crimes.

Attorney General Jeff Landry had this to say about the conviction of James Fontenot:

“Child pornography is a heinous crime that inflicts lifelong damage to its victims. My office and I are committed to investigating, arresting, and prosecuting those who exploit children. I commend my Assistant Attorneys General Stephen Martin and Jeff Traylor for their exceptional prosecutorial work to convict James Fontenot. This conviction should serve as a reminder of the justice waiting for the despicable criminals producing, distributing, and possessing sexual abuse images and videos of children.”

The sentencing took place on August 24.
