Man with autism shot in Louisiana while walking down street

RESERVE, La. (WDSU) —

The St. John Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man with Autism was shot while he was walking down the street.

Around 1 a.m. deputies responded to the 100 block of East 21st Street in Reserve after a report of a man being shot.

When deputies arrived, they found Aurelius Burfict, 57, with gunshot wounds to his body, according to the report.

According to police, Burfict was walking down the street when a car drove up from behind him.

A man then shot Burfict and fled to Highway 44, according to the report.

Emergency medical services arrived on scene and took Burfict to a New Orleans hospital where he remains in critical condition.
