As the Baton Rouge culinary scene gains more attention, some of our area chefs have received life-changing opportunities.
On FOX 44, Chris Motto has been featured on this season of Hell’s Kitchen. At Mansurs on the Boulevard in Baton Rouge, executive chef Motto calls the shots.
“Oh this is my home away from home,” Motto said. “I’m here more than I’m at home actually. I love it, that’s why I’m here all the time. This is where I’m in control.”
But for contestants on Hell’s Kitchen, chaos replaces control. It’s the culinary challenge of a lifetime.
“It’s still surreal,” Motto said. “Seeing myself on TV and kinda reliving it, forgetting almost how intense it was, a good time to forget. Completely surreal experience, just never knew what was happening next.”
While Chef Gordon Ramsay is known for his fiery approach, Motto says he brings out the best in the show’s contenders.
“He was fantastic. Gordon Ramsay is like a mentor to me at this point. I was able to learn so much from him, and seeing him be so passionate about this career after years and years of the grind is just incredible.”
Following his past decade of creativity at Mansurs, Chef Motto is just as passionate about shining a light on the Baton Rouge culinary scene.
“It’s not just bettering myself, it’s bettering this guys that work for me,” Motto said. “It’s bettering Baton Rouge as a whole. So it’s just trying to put the spotlight on Baton Rouge all together, and I want to share that with as many people as I can.”
His fan base and following are expanding, with each victory and hurdle cleared on Hell’s Kitchen.
“Yeah it’s getting bigger and bigger everyday. Just riding the wave and enjoying it man. Loving every second of it.”
And without giving away the season’s dramatic finish, expect to see Chef Motto featured for a long time.
“I’m here right now for sure, taking it one day at a time. The future is bright though.”
The winner of Hell’s Kitchen will take home a $250,000 dollar prize and will have the opportunity to run one of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants in Las Vegas.
