Mayor Broome talks about the new EBR Mask Policy, support from local business and healthcare leaders

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – From 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Mayor Broome is joining BRAC to speak about the new face mask mandate.

The mandate starts today and the goal of this afternoon’s webinar is to go into “specifics of implementation and enforcement and answer the business community’s questions, according to BRAC.

The webinar is free and anyone who owns a local business is encouraged to submit questions.

Guests at today’s BRAC webinar include:

  • Mayor Broome
  • Veneeth Iyengar, assistant chief administrative officer
  • Courtney Scott, assistant chief administrative officer
  • Jared Hymowitz, director of the Mayor’s Healthy City Initiative
  • Mark Armstrong, chief communications officer

The mayor’s office says, “Mayor Broome will detail how the Executive Order will impact businesses across the parish and answer questions to ensure that companies understand the requirements, enforcement mechanism, and more.”

Local business and healthcare leaders came together to support the Mask Executive Order.

The leaders signed a letter and made clear their view on this matter.

“Our case numbers over the last month show us that the coronavirus pandemic will continue to affect East Baton Rouge Parish for the foreseeable future,” said Director of the Mayor’s Healthy City Initiative Jared Hymowitz. “The public plays an important role in helping to preserve hospital capacity, and protecting all members of our community. It is critically important to wear a mask or face covering anytime you leave your home, practice appropriate physical distancing, avoid large crowds and practice good hygiene.”
