Mayor-President statement on New Year’s Eve events, COVID-19 surges

East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome

BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD)- East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome warns citizens to stay safe if going out to celebrate the New Year’s;

As most of our citizens, I am concerned about the surge and spread of COVID-19, specifically the most recent Omicron variant. While the organizers of Red Stick Revelry have gone to great lengths to present an exceptional and safe New Year’s Eve Celebration, we cannot ignore the potential health hazards events like this pose. As many have indicated, the safest place to be tonight is at home. If you choose to attend, plan to be masked up and adhere to social distancing, and if you have not been vaccinated, please geaux get vaccinated. It is my prayer that we will have a safe, hopeful and healthy 2022.
