BATON ROUGE, La. (NBC Local 33) (FOX 44) — East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome said city-parish flags will fly at half-staff to honor the late Baton Rouge Fire Department Captain Bryan Bozeman.

I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of Captain Bryan Bozeman with the Baton Rouge Fire Department. Captain Bozeman was dedicated to his job and the community. His family and loved ones are in my prayers during this difficult time. Flags at City-Parish buildings will be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of his burial.

Baton Rouge Fire Department officials say this has been a mourning time for everyone, but want to remember Bryan for his kind spirit and service to the Baton Rouge community.

Bozeman, 45, drowned Oct. 5 while cleaning fish near a boat launch that sits on the Robinson Canal in Cocodrie, according to a spokesperson with the Terrebone Parish Sheriff’s Office. Family members who were nearby pulled Bozeman from the water however, he was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Services for Bozeman have not yet been announced.
