BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Authorities say a blaze that started in a vehicle spread to a home, resulting in a total loss.

The housefire happened Memorial Day at a home on Arizona Street, according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department. BRFD says a resident was in the home’s carport, trying to start his vehicle when the automobile emitted a loud noise and began to produce smoke.

The vehicle caught on fire and flames quickly spread to the carport and to the home’s floor joists, before creeping into its attic.

None of the home’s four residents were injured but both the vehicle and the house were completely destroyed. BRFD says the damages amounted to approximately $60,000.

Now, the individuals residing in the multi-family structure must find another place to live. The Red Cross was called upon to assist them.
