Motorcyclist dies in early morning head-on crash

GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) – Louisiana State Police Troopers are investigating an early morning two vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and Chevrolet Tahoe in Ascension Parish.

Jarrod Miller, 33, of Gonzales died as a result the crash.

The crash took place at on LA Hwy 74 at Chester Diez Rd.

Around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 53-year-old Lawrence Furlow and Jarrod Miller “were driving in opposite directions on LA Hwy 74,” according to the Louisiana State Police.

Furlow was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe and Miller was on a 2007 Honda CBR Motorcycle.

LSP says, “Furlow failed to yield and made a left turn into the path of Miller’s 2007 Honda CBR Motorcycle.”

This led to Miller hitting Furlow’s vehicle head-on.

Miller was wearing a DOT approved helmet but died at the crash scene.

According to LSP, Furlow was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Furlow was taken to a hospital after suffering minor injuries in the crash.

Toxicology samples were taken from Furlow and Miller.

The investigation into this deadly crash remains ongoing and charges may still be filed in the future.

“Motorists should always be cognizant of their surroundings and obey posted traffic control signs, said LSP in a statement, “Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and obeying all traffic laws can often mean the difference between life and death.”
