Multiple pedestrians struck near LSU

A representative from LSU confirmed four students were taken to the hospital after a pedestrian-involved crash Friday morning.

LSUPD said two cars collided at Nicholson Drive and Skip Bertman Drive. The force of the collision pushed one of the vehicles up onto the sidewalk, hitting students who were waiting to cross the street.

LSU Media Relations Director, Ernie Ballard, said four students were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Ballard said one driver was issued a traffic citation for failure to yield and careless operation.

LSU junior Anna Kuhlmann said she was walking up to the sidewalk when it all happened. She said the crash pushed the pedestrians from the sidewalk to the grass.

“There were two girls and they were knocked out cold. There was another guy and he was conscious, but he was kind of rolling around. We were like ‘be still,'” Kuhlmann said.

Another student, Camille Cochran, walked up soon after the crash.

“I could see a couple of them were definitely bloody. Another guy was curled up in the fetal position on the ground,” Cochran said.

This is the second pedestrian-involved crash this week. On Monday, the first day of class, a pedestrian was hit near the AgCenter. Ballard said the pedestrian in the crash Monday was not at a crosswalk and stepped into the path of the vehicle. Ballard said that pedestrian was taken to the hospital with moderate to severe injuries.

Hearing the news of both pedestrian-involved crashes, LSU freshmen Chandler Clegg said everyone needs to be careful when walking or driving in or near campus.

“I feel like I’m not safe on campus, but I don’t know what they can really do to fix that,” Clegg said.

Clegg and Kuhlmann said she is just hoping that everyone involved is okay.
