Multiple people injured when alleged drunk driver slammed into rear of Jeep in Louisiana

Multiple people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday night in Abbeville, according to State Police.  

It happened around 10:30 p.m. on US Hwy 167 at LA Hwy 696 in Vermilion Parish.

An initial investigation by State Police has revealed that the crash occurred as 39-year-old Andrew Reed of Abbeville was driving southbound on US Hwy 167 when his Jeep was struck in the rear by a southbound truck driven by John Greene of Kaplan. 

As a result the Jeep ran off the the roadway to the right into a ditch and struck an embankment, police said. 

Reed was not wearing a seat belt and sustained moderate injuries, police said. 

Four occupants, including three juveniles, in the Jeep were transported to a local hospital for treatment ranging from critical to moderate, police said. 

When Troopers suspected Greene was impaired at the time of the crash, he submitted a breath sample which showed a BAC of 0.115g%, police said.

He was booked in the Vermilion Parish Jail on DWI (1st offense), vehicular negligent injury (5 counts), reckless operation, and no seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
