NEWTON-LE-WILLOWS, UK (BRPROUD) – It took almost twelve years, but Rick Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ has been watched more than 1 billion times on YouTube.
According to ET Canada, Astley is joining some exclusive company as “just over 200 music videos have surpassed the one billion views mark on YouTube.”
Astley joins the likes of The Cranberries’, Billie Eilish, Whitney Houston, Ariana Grande, Eminem, Bon Jovi and Metallica.

Astley said this about the 80’s classic being streamed 1 billion times, “that is mind-blowing, the world is a wonderful and beautiful place and I am very lucky.”
We can’t finish this without mentioning the phenomenon called “Rickrolling.”
According to the Urban Dictionary, Rickrolling is when you send “someone a link to 80’s pop star Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” video, making them believe that they’re gonna see something completely different.”
As of this writing, “Never Gonna Give You Up” has been viewed 1,014,891,681 times on YouTube.
