Gov. John Bel Edwards went back to school. On Thursday, Gov. Edwards visited Baton Rouge Community College to highlight his support for giving every Louisiana High School student access to dual enrollment classes. Gov. Edwards said his support for universal dual enrollment is part of his plan to strengthen Louisiana’s workforce development in his second term.
At BRCC, Gov. Edwards met with students from GEO Next Generation High School who are taking dual enrollment classes. The dual enrollment program prepares college-bound students for the rigors of secondary education while also allowing high school graduates to transition smoothly into the workforce.
After meeting with the GEO Next Generation students, Gov. Edwards toured the campus and visited with students from the Pathways in Technology Early College High School program he announced last year. The PTECH program, in partnership with IBM, uses dual enrollment classes to train students for jobs at companies like IBM and DOW Chemical.
