BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD)– Impact, the Baton Rouge North Economic Development District hosted a Town Hall on Thursday June 18, 2020.
The Town Hall was set up to focus on the “conversation between local elected officials and businesses.”
Community leaders say this conversation is critical for business owners who were struggling long before the pandemic.
“The city of Baton Rouge cannot be it’s greatest if this part of town is left behind,” North Baton Rouge Economic Developer Jerry W. Jones Jr. said.
For years activists in North Baton Rouge have fought for equality.
“We’ve been advocating for better health care in Baton Rouge for years, when we look at lack of access to fresh fruit and produce, when we look at the lack of economic development that’s happening in our community, when you holistically look at a community right and ask yourself are we doing in everywhere in Baton Rouge, we know the answer is not true,” Activist Gary Chambers said.
Thursday’s town hall will allow local business owners to voice their concerns.
“I know a lot of times businesses do not get the chance to ask the vital questions, and I think this will give them the opportunity to do that,” Jones said.
