BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – This week, the Denham Springs Police Department is encouraging drivers to make sure their little ones are buckled in safely while traveling along Louisiana’s highways and roads.
The police department took to social media Tuesday (September 20) in honor of Child Passenger Safety Week and reminded locals that officials plan to hand out free booster seats to those who qualify during a National Seat Check event this Saturday.
Event organizers say those on site will provide the public with child safety seat assistance and free booster seats (as long as supplies last) if they meet the following requirements:
- vehicle and child must be present
- child must be at least four years old, 50 pounds and must have outgrown the harness for their child safety seat by weight or height.
- If a child does not pass the five-step test, the child should ride in a child safety seat with a harness or a booster seat
The event is scheduled to take place Saturday, September 24 at the below location from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.:
LCMC OutPatient Clinic
9001 Summa Avenue
Baton Rouge, LA 70809
