BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A new chicken wing restaurant is set to open in Baton Rouge.

The Lafayette-based chicken chain, KOK Wings and Things, first opened in 2016. The new location is set to open at 1509 Government Street at the Electric Depot.

This will be KOK’s fifth brick-and-mortar location in Louisiana. The owners are hoping to expand outside of the state.

KOK began when four friends, Avery Bell, Corey McCoy, Jared Johnson and Tre’Jan Vinson, cooked chicken for their other friends, according to the official website. They later bought a food truck and took their food on the road.

Why bring the wings to Baton Rouge?

“KOK started when we were in college and a lot of our friends and customers are from across the state, so naturally, when they go back home, they helped spread the brand to cities we weren’t in,” said Chief Marketing Officer Tre’Jan Vinson. “We have some University of Louisiana-Lafayette support sprinkled here and there. Alongside, bringing the food truck to this market, doing this is a great step in our grand plan.”

KOK offers chicken wings, tenders, seafood and other sides that are fried in peanut oil.

“KOK is the result of sacrifice and commitment. We are a company that promises to never stop improving and we always let the customers know that we are building here and we won’t ever stop,” said Vinson.

The business recently won the Small Business of the Year award.

KOK Wings and Things will have its grand opening at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6.
