Andrius Vitto says he and his friends frequently shop online.
“I’m a country boy. I do everything online,” he said,
Recently, he says one his friends tried to meet up with a buyer on Craigslist after he found a boat. He paid $750 but ended up losing it all.
“They went up to meet up and the guy didn’t show up. He lost his money,” Vitto said.
Instances like these are supposed to stop after a community meetup spot has been made in Ascension Parish.
“People want to buy things online and meet up locally to do those exchanges, so we wanted to provide a safe space for citizens to be able to do so,” Allison Hudson, spokesperson for the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s office said.
Located outside of the Ascension Parish sheriff’s office, Hudson says internet purchase exchange isn’t the only thing the space is for.
“Custody exchanges for kids, they can do that here as well. It gives parents an ease of mind for them to meet up here and exchange their kids,” she said.
Vitto thinks it’s a great idea.
“Anything dealing with safety, I’m with it,” he said.
