NEW ORLEANS, La. (WDSU) — New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond tested positive for COVID-19.

A spokesperson for the Archdiocese of New Orleans confirmed the report Monday.

“I have notified those with whom I have been in close proximity. Needless to say, I have self-quarantined in order to be responsible and not affect others,” Aymond said in a statement.

Aymond, 70, said in a statement that he has been experiencing mild symptoms, including fever.

Additional information about his condition was not released.

The archbishop said he will provide updates on Facebook and on the archdiocese’s website. He said he “will use this quiet time for additional prayer and sacrifice for all those seriously affected by the virus.”

Additional details were not released.
