New Orleans man sentenced for theft of social security, disability funds

NEW ORLEANS, (BRPROUD) – On Friday, Dec. 10 the U.S Department of Justice District Court Judge for Eastern District of Louisiana Attorney Duane A. Evans announces the verdict of 33-year-old Elijah Charles Sorina, who is sentenced for theft of government funds in the amount of $19,897.00

According to plea documents, Sorina continuously received Social Security Administration (SSA) disability benefits after he claimed he was disabled and unable to work. SSA determined that from May 2014 until August 2016 Sorina received benefits of $19,897.00 to which he was not eligible for due to his employment.

Investigations by federal special agents determined that Sorina began working for a local transportation company as a school bus driver in 2014 after obtaining a commercial driver’s.
