NFL Insider: Brees has torn ligament in thumb, may miss six weeks, sources say

Drew Brees was sidelined with an injury during the first quarter of the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams game Sunday.

Brees was hit on his hand by Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald and did not return after that play.

n 19 NFL seasons, Brees has missed only one game due to injury.

Ian Rapoport, National Insider for NFL Network, said in a tweet Monday morning Brees visited a specialist following the game, and has torn a ligament in his throwing thumb.

Rapoport said Brees is going to require surgery, citing sources.

He could be out for six weeks.
