BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – With a mission to educate the younger generation about the importance of nutrition, local nonprofit, Fathers On A Mission, hosted a “Cooking with Dads” event.
“Healthy eating is important for fathers and father figures to know, to talk to their children. It’s very important that we create not just an educational opportunity but a bonding time for the dads and the kids,” said Levar Robinson, Executive Director of Fathers on a Mission.
During the cooking experience, fathers and children were able to learn how to make healthy snacks such as smoothies, parfaits, and trail mixes from scratch.
Dressed in their aprons and chef hats, father figures were prepared for a cooking experience with their children that didn’t just involve bonding time, but also nutritional lessons from Southern University students.
Coldman Johnson brought his sons to the event and is grateful to teach them the importance of being healthy. “I kinda like hands on as far as teaching them what they should eat and what they shouldn’t eat,” said Johnson.
Along with other fathers, Johnson says he is grateful for the event and the nonprofit, especially for the experience of creating memories.
“They’re teaching us how to be a positive impact and a positive role in the lives of our kids,” added Johnson. “I’m all about creating memories with my sons, even though it’s something small, for them it’ll be big.”
