A man’s who witnesses say was pointing a gun at people in the French Quarter is hospitalized after being injured in a shootout with New Orleans Police officers.
It happened this morning around 7:30. New Orleans Police say they responded to reports of an armed man near St. Louis and Bourbon Streets. When officers arrived on the scene, police say shots were exchanged and the armed man was shot in the chest.
Authorities say the gunman was taken to University Medical Center, where he underwent surgery late Saturday afternoon. None of the officers were injured as a result of this shooting.
Per standard protocol, all four of the responding officers have been reassigned, pending the outcome of an investigation by NOPD’s Force Investigation Team.
