The North Baton Rouge Industrial Training Initiative leadership hosted a stakeholder breakfast Wednesday at 8 a.m. where local elected officials, community leadership and contractor partners discussed the success of the program.
The NBRITI is collaborative effort comprising diverse community, industrial and educational partners throughout the greater Baton Rouge area.
Partners are committed to provide a sustainable process to recruit, train and develop North Baton Rouge residents for industrial careers with local employers.
The NBRITI program, spearheaded by ExxonMobil, began in 2012 in an effort to better connect community members to industry jobs.
The program, based at Baton Rouge Community College’s Acadian Campus, provides free training for high-demand crafts in electrical, millwright, pipe fitting and welding.
As part of its social skills component, the program offers ongoing tutoring, financial literacy training and resume and interview assistance.
Nearly 200 students will graduate from the program in January 2020, and recruitment for the next class begins this fall.
