ZACHARY, La-Phone calls to first responders are common in Sutter Place, but the people who live here say it’s not because of high crime or even violence.

“They have a lot of issues with that house on that street
It’s because of a group home being run on Sutter Lane,” a resident of Sutter Lane said.

“There’s just no security whats so ever,” Mike Smith

The Andover Community Home is a facility that houses adults with both mental and physical disabilities. Sunday officials with the Zachary Sheriff’s office say a man living there tried to break into a nearby house while in the nude.

But before he could get in, officials say he was shot by the homeowner.

“They haven’t put up any fencing. Which they need to do for the residents and the people in the home,” Mike Smith

But incidents with residents of the group home aren’t uncommon. The sheriff’s office has responded to 14 different complaints in the past three years.

The owner of the community home declined to comment, but the Sutter Lane residents say they hope this last incident will stir a change.

“I think they should build the right type of building for that type of care,” Smith said.
