GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) – If you’re looking for a free event the whole family can enjoy, this weekend’s Family Adventures to Health in Gonzales may be the perfect addition to your calendar.

The program, which is sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Health’s Office of Public Health, will take place Saturday, March 25 at the Ascension Parish Library (708 S. Irma Boulevard) from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The day will kick off with an early morning fun run/walk that starts at the Civic Center and ends at the Ascension Parish Library. If your moves are more sloth than cheetah, no worries! The race is not timed. In fact, you can even enjoy a few healthy snacks and water as you make your way to the finish line. Event organizers say these items will be offered to everyone who participates.

If you’d like to be a part of the fun run/walk, you’ve got to register beforehand at this link:  https://ldh.la.gov/FamilyRunWalk.

The next big program of the day is a health fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. where 40 vendors will set up shop and allow you to engage in health screenings, accept a nutritional box or two, and receive vaccinations and/or testing. Educational health and wellness seminars are also scheduled to take place throughout the event.

Family Adventures promises a full day of free fun that will also allow parents and children to learn about important health topics and find ways to get the care they need.

According to OPH Social Worker and event coordinator Keshia Roberson, “Family Adventures to Health is designed to engage, assist, and provide insight and resources that will enhance the overall wellness of our community. The focus is for families to feel empowered to take care of decisions affecting their health.”
