One dead, one injured in shooting on Beech St.

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating a homicide that took place in the 4900 block of Beech St.

The shooting took place at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, “investigators believe that gunfire was shot from an unknown suspect into a vehicle that was occupied by three individuals.”

Two men were hit by gunshots including a 20-year-old driver.

BRPD says, the 20-year-old “drove out of the area and stopped on Evangeline Street to call for help.”

Both shooting victims ended up at a local hospital where one of them passed away from their injuries.

The person who died was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

That individual has been identified as 21-year-old Keonta Jackson.

At this time, the injuries sustained by the 20-year-old are considered non-life threatening and the third person in the vehicle was not shot.

The investigation into this deadly shooting remain ongoing.
