ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) – On Monday, local officials and members of the community used Memorial Day to continue searching for a woman who went missing after a Sunday night boat crash.

According to Sheriff Brian Spillman of the West Feliciana Sheriff’s Office, the missing woman is 38-year-old Rachel Hann of St. Francisville.

Sheriff Spillman said, “After approximately 20 hours of continuous searching we’re now transitioning from a rescue operation to a recovery. We feel confident that we’ve covered the water surface and riverbanks in a large enough area that we would have discovered Ms. Hann, if she survived the crash. These are difficult decisions, but we’ve utilized boats, drones and helicopters in our grid searches and, after consulting with her family, we will now continue daylight searches in hopes of a recovery.”

Authorities identified the boat operator as Anthony Bain, 37. Also a resident of St. Francisville, Bain was injured in the boat crash and is currently hospitalized.

The search efforts began shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday.
