PORT ALLEN, La. (BRPROUD) – If you thought traffic was rough this morning, just wait.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is giving details about some repair work that needs to be done on the LA 1 Intracoastal Bridge.

That immediate closure affects those coming from East Baton Rouge to West Baton Rouge.

Louisiana DOTD spells it all out below:

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that the right/outside southbound lane on the LA 1 Intracoastal Bridge will be closed for an emergency repair beginning Tuesday, Sept. 14. This closure is necessary to install a steel cover plate over a failing joint on the bridge. The plate will have a rubber ramp to help create a smoother transition. It is unknown how long the lane closure will last.

The cover plate will be temporary until the weather conditions improve to allow crews to make permanent repairs.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through construction sites, and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

The West Baton Rouge Parish Council also posted this message about the immediate closure of the southbound lane of the LA-1 Intracoastal Bridge:

Effective immediately today, the right, southbound lane of the LA-1 Intracoastal Bridge will be closed for emergency repairs. The repairs are necessary to install a steel covered plate. A rubber ramp will be installed on the plate to create a smooth transition when going over the plate.

It is unknown how long the lane closure will last. The steel plate will be temporary until weather improves for work to be done on a permanent repair.
