BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Rev. Randy Cuevas graduated from St. Aloysius in 1970.

52 years later and Rev. Cuevas is the pastor at the same church.

Rev. Cuevas is one of 13 people and only two priests in the United States who were honored with the 2022 National Catholic Education Association’s annual award.

“As a servant leader, Father Randy Cuevas has blessed St. Aloysius School and the diocese with his commitment to providing the best possible environment for students to be formed in the faith and educated for understanding it,” said Dr. Melanie Palmisano, superintendent for the Catholic Schools Office.

The pastor at St. Aloysius will be recognized this week at the NCEA Convention.

The convention is taking place in New Orleans .

Father Cuevas was surprised and humbled by the recognition. “Coming out of several very challenging years for all our Catholic school administrators and teachers, the award comes as a very ‘happy’ surprise, and I feel that it really belongs to all of them,” he said. “A pastor with a parochial school is nothing without them.”
