Pediatricians Urge In-Person School for fall semester

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Pediatricians are calling for students to be physically present in school during the fall.

Despite the Coronavirus pandemic, the American Academy of Pediatrics is urging school systems to send students back to school. A report released by AAP says both the mental and physical benefits of in-person learning outweighs the risk of the virus in students.

“Obvisouly it helps them to develop their social skills their emotional skills when they are
stuck in the house they don’t get the chance to mingle with other people,” says Ochsner Medical Center Pediatrician Dr. Durga Alahari.

East Baton Rouge Parish Public Schools; Ascension Public Schools and Livingston Parish Public Schools say they are all working on fall plans.
