The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge and the River City Jazz Coalition will honor percussionist Herman Jackson with the Alvin Batiste Hall of Distinction Award for his contributions to jazz music in Louisiana.

Jackson will be presented the honor at the beginning of Jazzmeia Horn’s River City Jazz Masters performance on Thursday, March 19 at the Manship Theatre, according to Jonathan Grimes of the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge.

Jackson, a Baton Rouge native, studied jazz at Southeastern University and now teaches percussion there. His jazz career has taken him around the globe and given him the chance to work with a multitude of other artists, according to Grimes.
